2. Translators and Agencies can now generate fuzzy estimates for all workflow steps they have access to once content reaches those steps. 
3. You can now automatically change formal register machine translations to informal using AI Formality Adjustment, a new feature of Smartling's AI Translation Toolkit. 
4. URL ingestion is now supported for IDML and INDD files. 
5. File rewrite rules are now supported for Smartling Excel Template files.

1. The new CAT Tool Editor now allows you to drag and drop selected parts of the translated text, while automatically adjusting any whitespaces around the dragged-and-dropped words. 
2. Smartling Issue Management for Jira is a new integration which allows Jira users to track and manage Issues.
3. Smartling's AI Translation Toolkit was released and comes with three innovative, AI-powered features: AI Fuzzy Match Repair, Edit Effort Estimation for Machine Translations and AI-Enhanced Glossary Term Insertion in Machine Translations.
4. The Episerver Connector now allows you to specify the preferred Delivery Option for each content type.

1. Static Cache in the GDN works on a string-level rather than an entire page-level, meaning it initiates moments after a string is published in Smartling. It checks to make sure that there is a supply of translated strings to provide to the page before updating the cache.
2. Translation certificates are available for all closed jobs completed by Smartling Language Services.
3. Adding a new language has been improved to include a default style guide for that language.
4. Agency Account Owners and Translation Resource Manager users can export a CSV file of the Jobs Dashboard, by clicking the Export as CSV link.

1. The Transcreation Tool now supports clickable tags. If HTML formatting tags are seen in the source, simply click the tags to apply them to the active transcreation option.
2. Job Attachments is now a tab in the CAT Tool and any attachments that are an image file type can be previewed simply by clicking the file name.
3. You can now manage workflow step deadlines from the Job Summary panel in the Job Details.
4. The Translation Memory search now supports keyword, character, and RegEx search.

Smartling Excel Visual Context now supports adjustable columns

Previously: Spreadsheet columns could not be adjusted in the Visual Context panel of the CAT Tool.

Now: The width of the columns can be adjusted within the Visual Context panel of the CAT Tool. Simply click and drag the right corner of the header as necessary

Managing untranslated strings via the Files API in QT Linguist files

Previously: If no translation is available, Smartling returns the original source string as the translation in QT Linguist files.

Now: If using File API to download Custom QT Linguist files from Smartling, the parameter includeOriginalStrings=false can be set to return an empty string if no translation is available.

Glossary Entry History tracking and filters

Previously: There was no way to see when an entry was created and who it was created by. Also, there was no way to see when an entry was modified and who it was modified by.

Now: You can view this history of an entry in the entry side view within the Glossary. You can also filter for entries created and modified by a specific user in the Glossary Entry list.

Reject and Revise Transcreations

Previously: There was no way to modify or reject a transcreation back to the Transcreation step

Now: When a transcreation is in the Transcreation Review step, users can edit and/or reject a trancreation or back translation. Revise and reject must be enabled on the Transcreation Review step settings.

Image Context Editor: new and improved experience

Smartling's Context editor for image context has a new look and feel. You can now manually map strings to context with greater control over the location of the string and context binding, because of the view control.

GitHub Connector: Manually Export Translations

Previously: Translation were delivered to GitHub only when the Job was complete.

Now: You can manually export translations from Smartling to GitHub, regardless if the Job is completed. 

Strings View access for AAO and TRM

Agency Account Owner and Translation Resource Manager users can now access the Strings View by clicking the word count under the Total Words column on any Job in the Jobs Dashboard.

• Smartling's Episerver Connector now supports .NET 5 Core technology

Case-sensitive & multi-line support for custom quality checks

• You can now configure your custom quality checks to include case-sensitivity and line breaks by selecting the checkboxes
  • Case-insensitive is selected by default. This means that neither expression is considered case-sensitive to pass the quality check.
  • Multiline means to include line breaks, so the expression checks the beginning and end of the source and translation strings, as well as the entire string. This is particularly useful for translating subtitles.

Custom Jobs Dashboard and custom Strings View for Agency Account Owner, Translation Resource Manager, Translation Resource users

Smartling Language Services Workflows

Previously: All workflows on new account need to be configured manually.

Custom Strings View: Context thumbnail

Previously: There was no way to view the thumbnail of Visual Context associated with a string.

Now: You can select "Context" and "Context Name" from your available columns in your custom Strings View.

Smartling Excel now supports Visual Context

Previously: When translating a spreadsheet using the Smartling Excel option, automatic Visual Context was not supported.

Upload Visual Context from the Job Details

Previously: You could only upload a single image context file via the Job Details.

Now: You can upload any accepted visual context file from the Job Details. Multi-file upload is supported. You can also choose to match the strings in the context file to all strings in the Job, a specific file in the Job, or choose not to match any strings automatic.

Hotkey for Smartling's Context Capture Chrome Extension

Previously: The only way to set up a hotkey to restart Smartling's Context Capture Chrome Extension was to set one up in Chrome's Extension Manager settings.

Now: Even if you don't set up a keyboard short in Chrome's Extension Manager settings, the hotkey Command + Shift + S will restart the extension, so you can capture dynamic content on your website.

Language Groups

Smartling now supports the grouping of target languages for quicker language selection when Requesting Translation via the Jobs Dashboard.

Linguistic Packages linked to Glossaries and Blocklists

Previously: There was no way to view a list of active Linguistic Packages that the Glossary or Blocklist was part of.

Now: The Glossaries list and Blocklist list pages both include a column for Linguistic Packages. Click the hyperlinked number to view the list of Linguistic Packages.

Search the TM in the Transcreation Tool

Previously: There was no way to search a project's Translation Memory from within the Transcreation Tool.

Now: You can search a TM in the same way as in the CAT Tool.

Customize the Jobs Dashboard

You can now customize your Jobs Dashboard, allowing you to choose and arrange the columns containing Job information that is most important to you.

View History of Changes made to a Leverage Configuration 
Previously: There was no way to view the history of any update made to a leverage configuration on the Smartling UI.

Now: You can view the history of all changes made to a leverage configuration, including the username, and time and date of the update. The history includes any changes made to your SmartMatch settings.

LQA - Arbitration comments

Previously: There was no way to dispute an error reported on a translation under an LQA evaluation.

Pre-authorization estimates using specific workflows

Previously: Estimations are always given on unauthorized content if it were to be translated in the Project Default workflow. There was no way to get an estimation on content if it were to be translated in any other workflow associated with each language in the Job.

Now: You can modify the workflow that the estimation is generated from by refreshing the estimation before the content is authorized.

Visual Context - Multi-select/bulk-upload

Previously: Only image context could be uploaded in bulk.

Now: Visual Context in any of the accepted file formats (jpeg, png, gif, html, mp4) can be uploaded in bulk.

Visual Context - Do not match

Microsoft Excel Translation Preferences

Previously: There was no way to configure translation preferences for Microsoft Excel files within the Smartling UI.

Now: When uploading an Excel file and choosing Microsoft Excel translation, you can configure what content gets translated and excluded from translation.

Visual Context Settings - Contentful Connector

You can now configure Visual Context Preferences for Contentful content, including integrating Contentful's Preview API as Visual Context in the CAT Tool.

Namespace Filter - Account and Project Strings View

Previously: There was no way to search for a string by its unique namespace.

Now: You can insert a string's namespace into the Namespace field in the account and project Strings View.

Translation Unit Activity - Previous String Translation

Previously: The Translation Unit Activity did not display a list of all records of a string's translations.

Now: You can take a more granular view on a Translation Unit activity by viewing all Previous String Translations and clicking the hyperlinked string number to view each recorded translation of the string.

Custom Quality Checks

You can now create customized quality checks using regex to target specific areas of translation that you need monitored and evaluated. 

Visual Context - Highlight or Contrast string options

Previously: Visual Context only highlighted strings, which proved restrictive if content appeared in dark text on a dark background.

Now: You can choose to switch Context views between Highlight strings (default) or Contrast strings to make it easier to see strings on varying backgrounds (currently only for image context).

Additional pre-populate option - automatically merge TM segments

Previously: In a multi-segment string, you might have a segment that does not meet the specified threshold, and therefore would not pre-populate. On the other hand, you could have a match if the segments were merged to one string; however, there was no functionality to automatically merge segments for this purpose. 

Now: Enabling this setting allows for greater per-population results as strings can be translated by merging all segments and applying a pre-existing TM entry.

Translation Unit Activity - String History

Previously: The Translation Unit Activity did not display the individual actions made on a string.

Now: You can take a more granular view on a Translation Unit by opening the string history directly from the Translation Unit Activity in the TMM.

File Rewrite Rules - General Availability 

This new feature allows you to set multiple rules to carry out a "find and replace all" action on your translated file, without changing the translations in the Translation Memory. 

This powerful feature also includes three variables for rules:

1. $locale: rewrites specified "from" to each language's locale ID
2. $language: rewrites specified "from" to each language's language ID
3. $country: rewrites specified "from" to each language's country ID

Markup is now supported for VTT translation

Previously: Markup (HTML tags and formatting) was not supported in VTT translation.

Now: Translators can format VTT using the following tags: <b></b> for the Bold tag, <i></i> for the italics tag and <u></u> for the underline tag.
Important: Variations of those tags will fail.

LQA (BETA) - UI

If your account has access to Smartling’s LQA BETA, you can now access Linguistic Quality Assurance under the Account Settings dropdown. Here you can create, edit, publish, and disable LQA schemas.

Video Context upload - processing options

Previously: The video context upload dialog did not include processing options.

Now: When you upload a video file for visual context, you can choose to use the video for visual content for subtitle file translation or convert the video file into image context. Additionally, you can choose from the matching options, as detailed below.

Previously: When you upload image or html visual context, text in the file automatically match with any strings in any file in the project.

Now: You can choose to match the text in the visual context file with strings from a specific content file.

Agency Account Owner - View Details

Previously: The Job Details dialog contained the word count in each workflow step, but not the assigned and unassigned word count or due date for each workflow step task. To open the Job Details, the AAO clicked "Open" on their Jobs Dashboard.

Now: The Job Details dialog contains the assigned and unassigned word count, along with the due date for each workflow step. The button has also changed to open the Job Details, to View Details.

Previously: There was no way to filter for Jobs containing content in a Translation or Post Translation step.

Contentful - Date Modified Filter

Previously: When searching for Contentful assets in Smartling, there was no way to refine your search by a date last modified.

Linguistic Quality Assurance - BETA

Previously: The GitHub Connector could only be set up in Pull Request Mode - the existing mode that watches pull requests for translatable files.

Contentful - Out of Sync

Previously: There was no way to Request Translation on any assets that was previously translated in Smartling but has now updated source content.

Now: The Out of Sync checkbox filter in the Contentful Assets page allows you to select any assets that was previously translated in Smartling but has now updated source content.

Configurable Permissions for Requesters

Previously: By default, Requesters can submit Jobs to Account Owners and Project Managers for authorization. Also by default, Requesters can only see the Jobs they created. Granting Requesters permissions to do otherwise was not supported.

Now: An Account Owner or Project Manager can grant Requesters additional permissions to Authorize their Jobs and/or view all Jobs in any of the Projects they have access to.

Submitted Preset Filter

Previously: There was no way for Translation Resource users to view Jobs they have submitted to the next step in the workflow.

Now: Translation Resource users can use the new Submitted preset filter on their Jobs Dashboard to list all Jobs submitted by the TR over the last 60 days, excluding Jobs submitted in the last 24 hours.

Configurable Job Permissions for Requesters

Previously: By default, when a Requester creates a Job, an Account Owner or Project Manager must Authorize the Job for translation. Requesters can also only see the Jobs they created, by default.

Now: An Account Owner or Project Manager can grant a Requester permission to Authorize their own Jobs and/or view all Jobs in the Project they are assigned to. This gives Requesters a more dynamic user role and allows for a more streamlined translation process by better enabling the Requester.

Workflow Step Configuration: Alternate MT Profile & Fallback Method

Previously: If an MT Profile failed to translate content, the content would sit idle until a user moved it to another workflow.

Now: You can choose an alternative MT Profile to translate any content that the main Translation Provider MT Profile fails to translate. If the alternate MT Profile fails to translate content, you can choose to automatically send this content to another workflow from the  Fallback Method dropdown.

 

Contentful content parsing - ICU MessageFormat

Now: The Smartling GitHub Connector will analyze every PR and try to deliver the translated version of the files, including when strings are deleted from original files, and non-translatable content is added into original files.

SmartMatch in Dynamic Workflows

Previously: If a string SmartMatched to a post-translation step in a dynamic workflow, the string would continue via the default branch.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud now supports Multirow Data Extension translation

Previously:  The Connector only supported the translation of a single row per locale.

Now: Multirow Data Extensions are supported. Simply add as many source content rows as required in the Data Extension table. When you're ready to translate, choose "Multirow Data Extension" as a content type from the Salesforce Filters to begin translation - no additional configuration required. 

Saved Searches in the Strings View

Previously: When you search for content using a filter-set, you could not save or share the search for future reference.

Now: When searching for content using the strings view filters, you can save the filter set for future reference. You can now also share the saved search URL with other users on the account.

Run Quality Assurance for all strings in the Job in the CAT Tool

Previously: When you ran a Quality Assurance check in the CAT Tool, it only checked all strings displayed on the current page in the CAT Tool.

Now: When you run a Quality Assurance check, it will check all strings in the Job, even if the Job has multiple pages.

Bulk-delete Glossary Terms

Previously: Users could not bulk-delete terms from the Glossary. The only way to delete terms no longer needed in the Glossary was to delete each term individually from the Dashboard.

Now: When updating Glossary terms from a file upload, users can bulk-delete terms no longer needed in the Glossary, simply by removing the terms from the exported Glossary file and selecting the bulk-delete checkbox when uploading the updated Glossary.

Edit and delete Saved Searches in the Jobs Dashboard

Previously: When you created a Saved Search in the Jobs Dashboard, you could not rename the saved search.

Now: You can rename any Saved Search in the Jobs Dashboard by hovering over the Saved Search name and click the pencil icon that appears.

Translate PDF files

Previously: Smartling could not ingest PDF files for translation. The only way to translate a PDF file was to upload the native file (usually a Word Doc or InDesign file).

Now: Smartling can ingest PDF files for translation. It is still always recommended to upload the native file, where possible.

CAT Tool Filter by Repetitions

Previously: Users in the CAT Tool could not filter strings for repetitions.

Now: When you enter the CAT Tool via a Job, you can filter for strings with or without repetitions. String repetition filters include; all repeated strings, no repeated strings, the first of the repeated strings, and all except the first of the repeated strings.

Saved Searches in the Jobs Dashboard

Previously: When searching for Jobs using a filter-set, you could not save the filter set to use again in the future - you had to repeat the filter-set if you navigated onto another page. Also, you could not link a filter set with other users should you wish to share your view with a teammate. 

Now: You can save and name the filter set in the account-level Jobs Dashboard for future use. Furthermore, you can share the filter-set link with another Smartling Account Owner or Project Manager user.

CAT Tool String Numbering

Previously: The only way to reference a string in a Job was to refer to the source content or string hashcode.

Now: When referring to a string, you can reference the string number seen in the CAT Tool.

CAT Tool String Numbering allows you to;

• Easily locate a string after sorting/filtering
• Easily locate a string when doing QA checks
• Determine the relative position of strings after sorting

String Changes Report - Edit Word Distance

Previously: Edit Distance captured the number of character changes in the content, between each step. There was no metric to capture if a translated word was completely changed in any post-translation step.

Now: The addition of Edit Word Distance in the String Changes Report capturing the number of word changes in the content, between each step, allows you to even better understand how a translation has been impacted by an edit and further support strategic decisions in your translation process.

• First release of design tool plugins: Sketch, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. Sketch has some additional functionality to be able to automatically submit content and context to Smartling using your Smartling account. Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator will have this functionality in a forthcoming release; for now, source content is exported as a file and translated content is imported back in as JSON. All three plugins support pseudo translation.
• Powerpoint files uploaded to the Dashboard now have options for selecting slides, master slides, and notes.
• Exporting translation memory now has the ability to select multiple languages for download.
• Character limits can now be specified in iOS and Android resource files. The specific values from the files will be set on the string. Example for iOS Strings:

• iOS Files: The `includeOriginalStrings` parameter has been added to support iOS .stringsdict and .strings files.
• An addition to the Eloqua connector to allow for automatically rewriting content as it moves from Smartling to Eloqua. The primary use case is to replace phone numbers, email addresses, and other blocks of content to localize it for a particular market.
• Build rules to automate how content is packaged into a job through Job Automation. Rules can include or exclude files or URLs, be built for specific languages, and more.
• Wordpress: New 1.4.4 release which brings the new way how to register custom post types for localization- no custom code has to be written - just describe what should be localized in the custom post type and the rest will happen automatically. Also extended integration for Wordpress "shortcodes." This was done for upcoming release of Divi Builder localization. In addition, improved memory and CPU usage. Wordpress Connector works only when content editor submits content from Wordpress Admin UI so loading of connector's code by Wordpress when page is rendered for site visitors has been removed.

• TM Leverage Report: See how much content has benefited from leverage of Translation Memory.
• Mobile Context Library easily takes screenshots of app screens in iOS and Android.
• Demandware: Addresses issue in applying translations when Demandware does other concurrent updates of products in background (backup; replication stg ↔ prod). Background tasks (for uploading and downloading content) were switched to a new Demandware platform version. Continue refactoring which is required to switch on FAPI v2. Also added Test Connection button in Smartling settings.
• Repository: Improvements in SVN flow - it's more robust in case when workspace is in broken state (previous operation failed because of network; security; etc). For Git flow, added validation that workspace is in consistent state. Can be useful for troubleshooting. Also updated validation pattern for client locale code. So now a customer can use any string as client locale code (length: 1 to 50).
• Sitecore: Introduced presentation layout customization per language. It means that content editor can adjust presentation (add personalization and so on) for every language without involving developers. We added native support for this feature. Also added the new Sitecore WF step which allows a customer to submit an item to all configured locales. So if client uses WF then upload to Smartling can be just a part of his WF and no need to send content to Smartling explicit. Every new content, or updates in content will be submitted to Smartling automatically.
• Wordpress: Released an additional plugin for Wordpress. The core plugin supports translation of built-in WP types including simple customizations, but almost every website uses additional 20-30 plugins which extend WP functionality. And some of these plugins use custom storage for content. The new plugin, Smartling ACF Localization, allows a customer to translate content created by popular ACF plugin (1M+ installations).

• AEM Classic Connector: New URL Rewriter: Covers more cases and default behavior. Rewrites everything that is possible and exclusions can be configured. Simplified Integration: For those who built automation on top of Classic connector we simplified integration. Now required input parameters are more straightforward.
