How it works
Smartling’s WordPress Connector supports Instant Translation, which allows for near-instant translation without creating a translation job and routing content through a traditional translation workflow. Content submitted using instant translation is not ingested into the Smartling platform. Instead, translations are generated immediately using Smartling’s Instant MT service.
Instant Translation is best suited for use cases where machine-generated or LLM-generated translations without human review are sufficient, such as internal content or low-visibility pages. It is not recommended for highly creative or high-visibility content, as there is no human editing or review step.
Instant Translation is available within the standard submission flow. The only difference is that, when submitting content for translation, you select the Instant Translation tab instead of creating a new job or adding content to an existing job.
How to use WordPress Instant Translation
Step 1: Set up the connector
If you do not already have a WordPress Connector project set up in Smartling, follow the steps outlined in the setup article below: WordPress Connector Installation & Setup.
Step 2: Configure the preferred Profile in Smartling
Instant translations are completed using the instant MT service in Smartling. To configure your preferred MT or LLM translation provider and settings, log into your Smartling account (requires Account Owner or Project Manager user role).
- From the top navigation of your Smartling dashboard, access the AI Hub.
- In the Instant MT section, select the WordPress tab.
- Here, enable Machine Translation for WordPress.
- Under Default Profile, choose your preferred MT Profile or LLM Profile.
- If needed, language-specific Profiles can be configured.
- Optionally, glossary terms can be inserted in machine translations.
Once enabled, Instant Translation with the preferred Profile can now be used in WordPress.
Step 3: Requesting content for translation
The process for requesting content for translation follows the standard WordPress submission flow. Refer to the documentation on submitting WordPress content for translation.
The only difference is that you select the Instant Translation option instead of adding the content to an existing job or creating a new job. After selecting the target languages and, optionally, related content, click Request Instant Translation.
