Change a User's Role

This article is for Account Owners and Project Managers.

In Smartling, there are six different user roles. See User Permissions for more information about each role's access.

  • Account Owner
  • Project Manager
  • Agency Account Owner
  • Translation Resource Manager
  • Translation Resource (Translator, Editor, or Reviewer)
  • Requester

As an Account Owner or Project Manager, you have the ability to change user roles. 

A Translator, Editor, or Reviewer can easily become a Translation Resource Manager, and vice versa. For all other user roles, however, you will need to first delete the user, then add the user, and assign a new role.

To change a Translation Resource to a Translation Resource Manager (or vice versa):

  1. Go to Team > People.
  2. Click the name of the user.
  3. Near the top right of the page, click Change Role.
  4. Select either Translation Resource or Translation Resource Manager. (The user will keep the same workflow assignments. You can add and remove workflow assignments before or after changing the user's role.)

For all other roles:

  1. Go to Team > People.
  2. Click the name of the user.
  3. Near the top right of the page, click Remove User
  4. Click Confirm to remove the user.
  5. Click Add User, and assign a new role. (Username and password won't be affected.)
