Google Drive is a file storage service developed by Google, that allows users to store files on Google's servers, synchronize files across devices, and share files.
Smartling’s Google Drive Connector automatically syncs source content within a specific source folder in your Google Drive to Smartling, allowing you to authorize this content for translation from within the Smartling platform. Translations are automatically sent back to Google Drive once complete.
Note: Changes made to translated content in Google Drive are not automatically synced with Smartling.
Supported File Types
Smartling’s Google Drive Connector currently ingests the following file types from your Google Drive:
*Google files (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) are only supported file types in Smartling with the Google Drive Connector. When submitted these file types for translation, the Google Drive Connector converts them to .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx, respectively, for processing. When translation is complete, the Google Drive Connector will upload them back to Google Drive, and automatically convert them to their native Google file format.
**Similarly to Google files, PDF files are converted to .docx files once they have been submitted for translation. However, when translation is complete, the Google Drive Connector will upload them back to Google Drive, as a .docx file, meaning you will not see translated PDF files in your delivery folder. We recommend that you submit the native file for translation, when possible.
This conversion and processing may impact file formatting and layout.
Please read each file type's documentation for information on how the file can be prepared and parsed.
Visual Context is supported as per the file type's default. For example, Microsoft Office files have visual context by default, but Java property files do not. For more information, read our documentation on Supported File Types.
Limitations
File types have a max size limit documented in our Supported File Types article.
If you attempt to submit a file too large for translation, an error will flag, and the Job will not be created. In this case, download the file and upload it to Smartling manually.
Source Folder
The source folder should be a repository for ready-to-translate files. It is recommended that your content is created and files are prepared outside the source folder. Once the files are prepared and ready for translation, save them to a shared folder that is also the root-folder, so content is automatically available in Smartling for translation.
The Google Drive Connector must be configured with at least one source folder. Multiple source folders can be configured within the project settings. You can configure a source folder once, and this cannot be modified once saved. If you need to change the source folder that has been configured, you must configure a new source folder and delete the configuration that's no longer required.
Translation Delivery Folder
You can choose to have all translations delivered into the same folder as the source files, or choose to have translations delivered to a specific folder. Translated files can be delivered with target language in the file name, or in the subfolder name.
The same target folder can be configured for multiple source folders.
