When a context file is uploaded, Smartling automatically attempts to match any text that it contains to the available source strings (in a project, job or file). When there is a successful match, Smartling creates a binding between the text in the context and the matched string in the content. The result of this is highlighted strings in the Context panel in the CAT Tool.
Manual Context Matching
However, there are some cases where source strings cannot be mapped automatically to the text in a context file.
For example, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), which is used to match the text in image context files to your content, may occasionally not map strings automatically. There can be a number of reasons why the OCR has not worked as intended, however this can be resolved quickly and easily by binding strings manually in the Context Editor.
The Context Editor also allows you to override and correct any unintended context bindings. You can simply select the specific text or area in your context file that you would like to map to your content, and then bind it to any source string that has been uploaded to your Smartling project.
Context Editor
You can access the Context Editor by the following steps:
- Go to the Context Dashboard
- Click the thumbnail of the context file you want to manually match strings with
- This opens the Context Editor where you can view, edit and delete any string matching, as well as manual match strings to context
View Matched Strings
Any boxed text on the context file is matched with a string in the project or file (whichever was selected upon upload). The boxed text will display as highlighted strings in the Context panel of the CAT Tool.
You can view all the matched strings and string metadata on the strings panel (right-hand side). Click on any string in the strings panel to highlight it in the context file.
Edit Matching
You can edit the matching by adjusting the box on the text in the context file. Simply click, drag or move the box to edit the matching.
Delete Matching
To remove any of the matching, simply click the x beside the string in the strings panel. This removes the text box and allows you to manually match the text to a string.
Manual match strings to context
- Click Add String
- For screenshots, click and drag on context to create a text box
- Ensure to surround the text in the context file with the text box
- For HTML context, click on a text element to select it
- In the search field in the strings panel, filter for the string you want to match to the context
- Search options include
- File name
- String key/variant
- Job
- Has no context (excludes strings that already have context)
- You can also filter using the text of a string as a search
- Search options include
- Click on the correct string from any of the search results listed
- Click Save
The text on the context file is successfully matched with a string from the project/file and will be highlighted to users in the CAT Tool.
Configured search filters will persist as you switch from context to context. This allows you to filter for a group of strings, such as from a specific File or Job. Then, as you switch between uploaded screenshots or HTML, those strings will be available to facilitate manually adding content.
To clear configured filters, use the Reset link next to the number of configured filters
Considerations
- The Context Editor is available for all types of context files (image, video and HTML files).
- For HTML files, strings can only be matched to text elements.
- It is not possible to bind source strings to hidden text in HTML files (like page titles or alt text).
