The Slack Integration for Jobs Management allows you to receive automated Slack notifications when key job events occur in Smartling, such as when a job is authorized for translation or when a job is completed. You can route notifications to specific Slack channels based on job information and define custom message templates that control what information appears in each Slack message.
This integration is a paid product. For pricing information, contact your Smartling Customer Success Manager.
How it works
When a particular job event occurs, Smartling automatically sends a formatted message to the configured Slack channel. This message can include any key job information that is important for your team, along with a direct link to the job in Smartling so your team can quickly navigate to it from within Slack.
This is a one-directional integration whereby messages are sent to Slack from Smartling only; there is no communication back to Smartling from Slack. It is a customizable way for your teams to be notified about translation jobs in Smartling outside of standard email notifications.
Supported job events
You can receive Slack notifications for the following job events:
- Job Authorized: triggered when a job is authorized for translation
- Job Completed: triggered when a job has been completed
If you need notifications for additional job events, contact your Customer Success Manager or another Smartling representative to discuss your requirements.
Getting started
This integration is configured by Smartling's engineering team based on your specifications. Follow the steps below to get set up.
Step 1: Contact your CSM
Contact your Customer Success Manager and provide the following two pieces of information so Smartling's engineering team can configure the integration.
Routing
Routing defines which Slack messages are sent to which Slack channels. You can route messages based on any job field, for example:
- Jobs whose name contains a specific word (e.g., route any job containing "Urgent" to a dedicated channel)
- Jobs targeting a specific language (e.g., route jobs with the target locale fr-FR to a French team channel)
- Jobs that meet a word count threshold
- Jobs matching criteria in the job description or any other job field
Provide your CSM with a description of your routing rules, including the conditions and the corresponding Slack channel for each.
Message template
The message template defines what information appears in the Slack notification. You can include any job field in the message, such as:
- Job name
- Due date
- Word count
- Reference number
- Job description
- Target language(s)
- Any other available job field
Describe to your CSM what information you would like included in your Slack messages and we will configure the template accordingly.
Step 2: Connect your Slack workspace
An Account Owner role is required to complete the connection in Smartling.
You can connect your Slack workspace at any time — you do not need to wait for Smartling's engineering team to complete configuration first. However, notifications will not be active until the backend configuration is complete.
- Click Account Settings in the top navigation in Smartling.
- In the Integrations section, click Integrations & Developer Tools.
- On the left-hand side of the page, select Management Bridge.
- Click Connect to Jobs Slack.
- A modal will appear where you will select the Slack workspace you wish to connect and allow the integration to access Slack. Select your workspace and then click Allow.
Step 3: Await configuration confirmation
After connecting your Slack workspace, you will see a pending configuration message in Smartling. Smartling’s engineering team will complete the backend setup based on the routing rules and message template you provided to your Customer Success Manager. Once the configuration is complete, our team will notify you, and the integration will begin sending Slack notifications.
Key notes
- One-directional: Notifications go from Smartling to Slack only. You cannot send messages or take actions in Smartling from Slack.
- Direct links: Each notification includes a link to the relevant job in Smartling for quick access.
- Flexible routing: Multiple routing rules can be configured to send different types of jobs to different channels.
- Custom templates: Message templates can be tailored per routing rule, so different channels can receive differently formatted messages.
- Engineering-configured: Initial setup is handled by Smartling's engineering team. Contact your CSM to initiate the process.
