Troubleshooting common issues
I don't see a checkbox next to my message to select it for translation.
If you don’t see a checkbox next to a message asset in the Smartling asset list, it means the message is missing translation tags. To send a message for translation, all text and image or link URLs intended for translation must be wrapped in a translation tag. Be sure that the message subject is also wrapped in a translation tag. See instructions here.
I see a checkbox next to my message, but I get an error when I request it for translation.
If you encounter an error when trying to request an asset for translation, check that target locales are enabled for each Canvas or Campaign message you want to translate. Each message must have the appropriate locales added before it can be requested for translation. See instructions here.
I get an error when I open the Canvas/Campaign in Smartling.
This indicates an issue with your translation tags. Make sure that all translation tag IDs in the message's content/body are unique.
Translation tags should follow this format:
{% translation [unique id] %}Your text for translation.{% endtranslation %}
See here for more information about adding translation tags.
All tag IDs in the subject, pre-header (if present), and body must be unique.
If you receive an error message with an ID reference, use it to help locate the message with an issue. You can also use the stepName to help identify the message.
Find the message with the corresponding ID in Braze
and/or use the step name to help find the message.
After updating the tag IDs, be sure to save your Canvas or Campaign.
You can also click the Download template button in Braze to test the content. If the download fails or an error is shown, Braze has detected an issue with the message structure. Although you don’t need the CSV file for translation, this test can help you identify and resolve issues.
Repeat the steps above for each message in the relevant Canvas or Campaign to ensure all messages are formatted correctly.
