This article guides you through the steps to troubleshooting missing rate information in a Job.
Cost estimations are vital to ensuring that your translations remain within budget. To have a cost estimate for each Job calculated automatically, rate cards must be established for all of your translation providers and should include the correct rates for all workflow steps and language pairs in your Job.
1. Check the workflows in the estimate
Estimates are generated based on the workflow steps the content will pass through, the resources assigned to do the work, and the associated rates. The first step in troubleshooting is to determine which workflows are involved.
- In the Job Details, click the Workflow tab
- Click the names of the workflows which were used to generate the estimate
On the workflow, click the ellipses beside the workflow name and select Edit Workflow Settings
Check the Content Type: Is it General, Legal, or Marketing?
The Content Type indicated here needs to correspond to the Content Type indicated in your vendor's rate card.
- Next, check who is assigned to the workflow steps for each language by clicking the downward arrow on each step > Manage People
2. Validate the workflow configuration against the people assigned
A common problem is that the resources assigned to the work do not have rate cards set up for the content types or languages.
- Go to Team > Users and/or Agencies (depending on who is assigned)
- Click the user/agency tile
- Go to the Rates tab
Validate that the rates are defined on each of the following:
- The users assigned to each of the steps in the workflow
- The correct content type of the workflow
- The correct workflow step type(s) which are part of your workflow
The language pairs you are translating into

Note: If all of the above is aligned, the problem could be due to one of the special cases.
3. Refresh the estimate
Once you have found and resolved any issues found above, you need to refresh the estimate.
- Go to the Job Details
Under cost estimate, click Refresh
- This cost estimation for the Job should display (as shown below)
- Click View Estimate Details to view a breakdown of costs and download a CSV copy
Special Cases Of Cost Estimation
When a Job uses a dynamic workflow, it is always assumed that all content in the Job will move into the default branch of the workflow. For this reason, only the rate information provided for the default branch of the workflow is used for the calculation of the cost estimate.
When the default branch of the workflow does not use a rate card (for example, if it consists of a Machine Translation step only), no cost estimate is provided.
If the workflow step rates are defined by a mix of currencies, the calculation will flag "Mixed currencies", as shown below.
Click View Estimate Details to check the cost estimate for each language.
Non-payable workflow steps
If there are any steps in your workflow which don't use a direct per-word or hourly cost, such as an internal review step or other steps managed by your internal teams, they will show up as missing rate information. To avoid this, create a rate card for the (internal) users who are assigned to the relevant workflow step and set the rate to non-payable.
