Content changes happen, a lot! And they often happen when translation of content has already been initiated. Smartling makes it easy to handle the translation of these changes, in whatever form they arise.
There are two forms of this scenario:
- You want to replace an existing version of the file in Smartling
- You want multiple versions of the same file translated
Multiple File Versioning
Although not as common as the first scenario, you may want the same strings translated multiple times in the same project. This can be achieved by using file versioning offline. Meaning, using a unique filename, or namespace, for each version of the file you are translating.
By default, uploading a source file with a unique namespace all new strings will be created.
Meaning, a file can contain the same strings, and even the same string variants as a file already in a project and still be recognized as unique content and translated independently of the initial file, if it has a unique naming convention, e.g. filename v1, filename v2, etc.
However, if SmartMatch settings are configured to publish 100% matches with variants, only new and changed content is translated again once the strings are authorized.
Once new and changed strings are published, you can download the translated versions of the file, or the API automation and repository connector will send the files back to you.
