How it works
Smartling's Figma Buzz plugin offers an Instant Translation option that lets you quickly generate translations without creating a translation job or waiting for content to move through a traditional workflow. This approach is ideal when MT or LLM-generated translations without human review are sufficient. It's less suitable for highly creative or high-visibility content, however, since there is no human editing or review.
Instant Translation is available as part of the standard submission flow. When submitting content for translation, open the Translate tab and select the Instant sub-tab.
How to use Figma Buzz Instant Translation
Step 1: Install the plugin
If you don't already have the Smartling Figma Buzz plugin installed, follow the steps in the Figma Buzz Plugin article.
You must have access to Smartling as an Account Owner, Project Manager, or Requester to use the Smartling Figma Buzz plugin.
Step 2: Configure the preferred Profile in Smartling
Instant translations are completed using the instant MT service in Smartling. To configure your preferred MT or LLM translation provider and settings, log into your Smartling account (requires Account Owner or Project Manager user role).
- From the top navigation of your Smartling dashboard, access the AI Hub.
- In the Instant MT section, select the MT API tab.
- Here, enable Machine Translation for the MT API.
- Under Default Profile, choose your preferred MT Profile or LLM Profile.
- If needed, language-specific Profiles can be configured.
- Optionally, glossary terms can be inserted in machine translations.
Once enabled, Instant Translation with the preferred Profile can be used in Figma Buzz.
Note: The Figma Plugin tab is for the Figma Design plugin. The Figma Buzz plugin currently uses the Profile configured in the MT API tab; a dedicated Figma Buzz tab is planned for a future release. Whatever Profile you configure here will be used for all translation requests that use the MT API.
Step 3: Requesting content for translation
The process for requesting content for translation is the same as the standard Figma Buzz translation submission flow. Please refer to the documentation on submitting Figma Buzz content for translation. The only difference is that, in the Translate tab, you select the Instant sub-tab, select the target languages you'd like to translate into, and then click Translate to [N] language(s).
Step 4: Receiving translations
After you click Translate to [N] language(s), you'll get a confirmation message as each target language completes. A separate version of the translated design is created for each language within the Figma Buzz asset.
Each time you request an instant translation, Smartling creates a new design for that target language, so you can add, edit, or modify it without affecting the source asset. Keep in mind that each request creates a new copy: if you need to re-translate the same target language, we recommend deleting the old translated version first.
