When content assignment is enabled on a workflow step, Agency Account Owners and Translation Resource Managers can assign content to linguists directly from the Jobs Dashboard. This lets you control who works on what, split work between multiple linguists by word count, and assign across workflow steps, all from a single dialog.
You can assign content to Translation Resource and Translation Resource Manager users from the Jobs Dashboard. Account Owners and Project Managers can also assign content to linguists from their Jobs Dashboard.
You can assign available Translation Resource users (translators, reviewers, and editors) to any workflow step where assignment is enabled. For example, if a job is in progress at the Translation step and the workflow also includes Review and Edit steps, you can assign linguists to all three steps at the same time.
Before you begin: The job must be in progress, and content assignment must be enabled in your client's workflow settings.
Finding jobs that require assignment
- Go to the Jobs Dashboard.
- In the left panel, select the Requires Assignment filter to find jobs that are in progress and need linguists assigned.
How to assign linguists to content
- From the Jobs Dashboard, click the Assign button for the job you want to assign.
- The Task Assignment dialog opens. Content is grouped by target locale and workflow step.
- Choose how to measure the work: select Total Words or WWC (Weighted Word Count) at the top of the dialog.
- Select a linguist for each step and assign them to a specific number of words or weighted words.
- To split the work in a step between multiple linguists, click Add Linguist. A Split Evenly option appears, which divides the word count equally.
Note that the actual word count may not be exactly equal. Smartling assigns whole strings to each linguist and won't split a string between two people. See Considerations for more details. - To check when a step is due, hover over the calendar icon next to the step name.
- When you have finished your selections, click Save.
Considerations
- Reassignment is not available in this dialog. Once you click Save, you cannot edit the assignment from the Task Assignment dialog. You can still assign and unassign content from the Strings View.
- You don't have to assign all steps at once. You can leave later steps unassigned and come back to them, but the Task Assignment dialog only reappears for a step once content reaches it. For example, if you assign only the Translation step now, you won't be able to assign the Edit step from this dialog until content moves into it.
- Word count splits are adjustable. When you add multiple linguists to a step, you can set a specific number of words or weighted words for each linguist. Choose between Total Words and WWC (Weighted Word Count) depending on how you want to measure the work.
- Actual word counts may differ from requested. Smartling assigns whole strings to each linguist and won't split a string between two people. Because of this, the actual word count per linguist may be slightly higher or lower than what you requested. The dialog shows both the requested number and the actual split so you can see exactly how the work was distributed.
