Accessing the CAT Tool

Users can access the CAT Tool through a number of entry points in the Smartling platform. Depending on your user role and the method in which you access the CAT Tool, the content displayed can have varied results.

Below is a table to guide you through how each user role can access the CAT Tool, and the expected results displayed in the CAT Tool.

Translation Resource / Translation Resource Manager Jobs Dashboard > Open The CAT Tool opens on the workflow step, and content is filtered for the Job that was displayed in the Jobs Dashboard. Recommended for user role.
Agency Account Owner Jobs Dashboard > Job > Under Available for Work, click the workflow step name; e.g., "Translate" or "Review"

The CAT Tool opens for the chosen language in the workflow step and filtered for the Job that was selected.

Recommended for user role.

Account Owner / Project Manager Job Details > Actions > Edit in CAT Tool The CAT Tool opens in the translation step for the language and filtered for the Job that was displayed in the Jobs Dashboard. Strings are locked to protect any work completed by Translation Resource users.
Recommended for user role.
Requesters n/a n/a
Any applicable  String View (New Experience) > Actions > Edit in CAT Tool The CAT Tool opens for the chosen language with up to 100 strings, and will not be filtered by a Job. Job Briefing will not be displayed.
Any applicable  List View (Classic) > Add Translation / Edit Translation The CAT Tool opens on the workflow step selected. The content displayed in the CAT Tool depends on the filters selected in the List View. Job Briefing will not be displayed.

 

Differences in Modes

The CAT Tool has a different feature set depending on whether the user is within the context of a job. Some features only exist in one mode, and some appear differently depending on the mode.

if a job has over 2,000 strings, the features will revert to not in a job state.
