Developer Tools Overview

Smartling offers a variety of tools to help automate your localization processes and support custom integrations. These tools enable you to streamline translation management, sync content between your codebase and Smartling’s TMS, and ensure timely delivery of localized content to your users. 

Smartling also provides a variety of pre-built solutions, including connectors and integration tools. For more details, see our Introduction to Integrating with Smartling.

API

Smartling’s RESTful APIs give you access to many of the same capabilities available in the Smartling UI, allowing you to fully automate your translation process.

SDKs

Smartling offers SDKs to simplify integration with language-specific client libraries for interacting with the API. Coverage and maintenance vary by SDK.

  • Java SDK - Provides the broadest API coverage, supporting most of Smartling's REST APIs.
  • Node.js SDK - Offers support for the most commonly used APIs, such as the Jobs and Files APIs.
  • Python SDK - Similar to Node.js, includes support for the most frequently used APIs.

CLI

Smartling's CLI (Command Line Interface) tool lets you automate localization tasks as part of your development or deployment pipelines.

Callbacks & Webhooks

Smartling supports both callbacks and webhooks for enabling communication between Smartling and your custom integrations. 

  • Callbacks - One-time notifications for specific events like job completion.
  • Webhooks - An event-based system that can send notifications for a variety of events in near real time.

Additional Process Automation Tools

Smartling MCP Server

Smartling's MCP (Model Context Protocol) server allows you to integrate Smartling with AI assistants like Claude, GPT, and other LLM tools, enabling access to Smartling's translation capabilities directly within your developer environment or AI chat tool interface.

Smartling's Zapier App

Zapier connects Smartling with platforms like Jira and Trello to automate cross-platform workflows. Use it to trigger translations using your preferred MT or LLM provider and automatically return translated content to other connected apps, eliminating manual steps.
