Contentstack is considered a "headless" Content Management System (CMS), as it provides all the backend tools that are needed to create and publish content via APIs and leaves the frontend to your developers.
Smartling’s Contentstack Connector automatically ingests your Contentstack content into Smartling, allowing you to authorize this content for translation from within the Smartling platform. Visual Context is supported. Translations are automatically sent back to Contentstack once complete.
Additionally, you and your team can use the Smartling App in Contentstack to submit content for translation.
Smartling’s Contentstack Connector currently ingests all assets and related assets* within the following Contentstack content types:
- Entries
- Release Item
*Related assets are ingested from one-level deep, meaning a related asset within a related asset will not be ingested.
Image and video files are not yet supported content types for translation.
Contentstack Asset List
Once you have connected your Contentstack account, you will find Contentstack content in the Contentstack tab in your Smartling project.
Here you will see a flat list of your Contentstack assets, filtered by a specific content type. Each content type has a unique icon and are managed separately from within the Smartling platform, allowing greater visibility and control over the translation management of each. Every time you toggle between each of the Contentstack content types within the Smartling platform, Smartling will check Contentstack for new content. Entries is the default content filter selection.
The columns are dynamic and will change depending on your content filter selection and configuration.
Entries
When Entry is the content selection, you can refine your search by using the Content Type filter to list all assets within a specific content type in Contentstack. You can further refine your search by filtering for content in a specific Workflow Stage in Contentstack.
The Asset List will include the following columns:
- Title/URL: the Title and URL in Contentstack.
- Smartling Status: the asset's translation status in Smartling.
- Contentstack Status: Published or Not Published.
- Contentstack Workflow Stage: the workflow stage the asset is in within Contentstack. Once an asset has been translated in Smartling, the Contentstack Connector will automatically return the translated asset to the same Workflow Stage the content was submitted from, meaning the Workflow Stage does not change after the translations are returned. You can submit content for translation from any Workflow Stage; however, it might be worth considering creating a specific Workflow Stage in Contentstack for asset translation.
- Last Modified: is the date the asset was last modified in Contentstack.
- App Link: brings you directly to the asset in Contentstack.
Contentstack Status
This is the Publish Status in Contentstack. Options displayed under this column in Smartling are Published or Not Published. If the Published Status in Contentstack is "Not Published", the Contentstack Status in Smartling is "Not Published". All other Published Statuses in Contentstack are listed as "Published" under the Contentstack Status column in Smartling. Note, this may not mean that the content is published live on your website.
Release Item
When Release Item is the content selection, you can refine your search by using the Release filter to list all release items within a specific Release in Contentstack.
The Asset List will include the following columns:
- Title/URL: the Title and URL in Contentstack.
- Contentstack Content Type ID: the asset's unique identifier which can be found under Entry Information in Contentstack.
- Contentstack version number: the asset's version number which can be found under Version column in the Release Item in Contentstack.
- App Link: brings you directly to the asset in Contentstack.
Sort
You can sort the asset list by Contentstack structure (default) or asset name (descending/ascending), created (descending/ascending), and last modified (descending/ascending).
Search
The search box in the Asset List works in the same way the search works in Contentstack. You can search for asset title, URL or Entry ID as listed in Contentstack. The Entry ID can be found under Entry Information in Contentstack.
You can only search for one asset at a time; comma-separated search is not supported.
Smartling Status
Completed: Translations were successfully delivered from Smartling to Contentstack.
Failed: The asset submission failed, or the translation delivery failed. A number of reasons can result in a failed status, but some of the most common are due to invalid regex causing placeholder issues, or the target languages are disabled in Contentstack.
In Progress: The asset has been successfully sent to Smartling from Contentstack, and the translation process has commenced but is not yet completed. If there is a case where translations are complete, but a network issue occurs, the translations will remain in progress until the Contentstack Connector delivers the translations to Contentstack on a successful retry.
New: The asset is in the process of being sent for a new translation request. For example, if changes were made to the source content and your Contentstack Connector is configured to automatically send the new content for translation. The asset could be sitting in submission queue or sitting in Awaiting Authorization
Not Translated: The asset has never been submitted for translation.
Language Filter
Filter by the dropdown list of target languages configured in Smartling for the Contentstack project. Target Languages must also be configured identically in Contentstack and mapped in the Contentstack Connector Language Configuration found in your Smartling Project Settings.
Asset Details
Click the information icon beside the asset name, to access the Asset Details page. Here you can see further information on that asset, including the translation status for each language. From here, you can also Request Translations or Export Translations for that specific asset.
