Changes to the Smartling Zendesk Connector
Here is an overview of the improvements made to the Smartling Zendesk Connector.
Improving the Request Translation wizard
To manually create a translation Job of a Zendesk asset in Smartling;
- go to your Zendesk project
- click the Zendesk tab to access the Asset List
- select the asset(s)
- click Actions > Request Translation
Previously
The wizard that appeared only required you to select the target languages for the translation Job. When you selected the target languages and clicked Authorize, this created a "Daily Uploads" Job and the languages were translated in the default workflow set in your project.
Problems
This restrictive flow did not allow you to send the content for translation in an existing Job, or give your new Job a unique name, or choose a specific workflow for each language to be translated in.
Improvement - Request Translation wizard
If you're familiar with using Smartling outside a Zendesk project, you've probably used the Request Translation wizard.
Steps to Request Translation are still the same, but the wizard will now allow you to add content to an existing Job, or include more detail in the new Job, such as a unique Job name, and you can specify the workflow for each language, should you need to (leave it as is to keep it to the default workflow).
Introducing, Bulk-Select
If you want to translate 50 assets or more in any given content type at once, you can perform a bulk selection to commence a mass translation process. To perform an action on the entire result set:
- Select the top checkbox that is in the table's header row.
- Choose the Select all matching current filter option that appears after you have selected all on the page.
- Choose to Request Translation or Export Translation of all assets listed
Request Translation
When using the bulk actions feature to Request Translation, you can choose to create a new job or added the selected assets to an existing job (as seen in the new Request Translation wizard above).
Once you click Next, you will get confirmation that your job request is being processed. You can close the window, it won't disrupt the processing.
The number of bulk Job requests processed will be seen on the top right of the page. You can check the status of the Job Request by clicking the number icon.
This will open the Recent Job Processes dialog where you can view the details and status of each bulk Job Request taken. You can cancel any incomplete Job Requests by clicking the 3 dots under Actions > Stop Process
Exporting Translations
As soon as you click Export Translation, content will be sent to Zendesk. This may take a few moments to deliver, depending on the volume of content.
Introducing, the Information Icon
Previously
In the Zendesk Asset List, the asset name is hyperlinked to bring you to the Assets Details page
Improvement
In the Zendesk Asset List, the asset name is no longer hyperlinked. You can now see an information icon beside the asset name, which links to the Asset Details page. Here you can see further information on that asset, including the translation status for each language. From here, you can also Request Translations or Export Translations for that specific asset.
Improvements to the UI
Asset Type Icons
Each asset type has now a unique icon to easily identify the asset in the Asset List (Zendesk tab)
